At the October 19th Cross Country qualifying meet Tony Racine placed 15th earning him a spot at the State meet. Students sent Tony off with a pep rally on Friday October 20th. At the state meet on October 27th Tony told Herald Sports that it was an amazing race. "It has always been a dream to go to state...to be that one kid that couldn't even finish a mile to now be competing at state." Essex varsity cheerleaders Olivia Baker and Kirsten Kalkas were both selected to the 2023 Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star Cheerleading Team after being nominated by their coach Mary Ohnmacht.
